Richard T. Miller

April 28, 1946- January 29, 2021

Richard T. Miller, Sr. of Pawleys Island, died on January 29, 2021 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital with his devoted wife, Ellen, at his bedside. He was 74

Mr. Miller was born on April 28, 1946 in York, SC, the son of William Clarence and Jeanne Thomas Miller. He was a graduate of Lancaster High School and studied at the University of Michigan and the University of South Carolina. After graduation he served his country with distinction as an US Army Ranger during Viet Nam. While in the service Mr. Miller became proficient with computer technology. He began his professional career at the National Science Foundation, where he was tapped as the youngest member of the US Senior Executive Service (SES). Mr. Miller worked in the Department of Treasury in various roles for over 30 years. He retired from the federal service as the CIO of the US Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC). After retirement, Mr. Miller established RTM Associates, a management consulting practice and continued his consultant work when he and his wife, Ellen, retired to Pawleys Island.

Mr. Miller was passionate about golf. He was a USGA Rules Official; member of the USGA Senior Competition Committee; member of the Executive Board and Treasurer of the SC Golf Association and was presented Charles Drawdy Distinguished Service Award. He was a member of Wachesaw Plantation Club. Mr. Miller is remembered as a good man, a great cook, kind, generous, supportive of golfers of all ages, and a man with a heart of gold. He will be missed.

He is survived by his wife and love of his life, Ellen J. Miller of the home; sister Pamela Jeanne Brandon (Jim) of Lugoff, SC; nephew Joel Brandon (Stacy); Tim Brandon (Kim); and a loving extended family.

A Celebration of life will be held in the future. The family wishes to thank the Doctors and the Nurses at Georgetown Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the SC Junior Golf Foundation.

Goldfinch Funeral Home, Litchfield-Pawleys Chapel will be handling the arrangements.
