LANCASTER, SC ~ Nancy Henrietta Evatt, age 72, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2018 after a courageous battle with breast cancer.  She was born April 15, 1946 in Lancaster, SC to James Henry and Elizabeth Freeman Evatt.  Nancy graduated from Lancaster High School in 1964 and continued her education, graduating from Palmer College in Columbia. She was a dedicated employee of Springs Industries for over 40 years and recently retired from American Metals, Inc.

Spirited and opinionated, Nancy will be remembered by her friends and family as a loyal, fun, and loving presence in their lives who will be missed immensely.  She may have been short, but she packed a mighty personality in her small stature.  She was a people-person known for picking at and teasing with her buddies.  She loved a good laugh as much as anyone!  Nancy especially cherished her fellow Class of ’64 Blue Hurricanes classmates and enjoyed spending time with her friends, going out to eat, travelling to new places, and cheering on her Gamecocks.  Some of her all-time favorite things were listening to beach music, indulging in PW’s strawberry milkshakes, and watching Blue Bloods on television.

Nancy was also an ardent Christian who supported her church, First Baptist of Lancaster, with her whole heart.  A lifelong member whose name was on the cradle roll, she served on numerous church committees, participated as a church greeter, volunteered with the OASIS Senior Citizens Group, was a long-time tutor for the FBC After-School Program, and worked on mission trips in both Pittsburgh, PA and Johnsonville, SC. For many years, Nancy worked in Relay for Life’s Welcome Tent as a greeter and helper with survivors.  Being at church and participating in a shared love for her Lord and Savior with fellow church members were highlights of her life.

More than anything, though, Nancy adored her family.  “Nan,” as she was known by her granddaughters, is survived by her beloved daughter, Adrianne, and son-in-law, Arnold Langley, whom she considered her son, and their two girls, Catherine Anne and Anna Grace Langley.  Nothing made Nan happier than spending time with her “girls,” and she never failed to brag and talk about them with everyone she met.  They were her pride and joy.  Nancy is also survived by her cousins whom she considered more like sisters: Jackie F. Rainey, Druanne F. West, and Emily F. Ayer, all of Anderson, SC.  One of the joys of her life was the time spent in Anderson with them, reminiscing and sharing happy times. In addition, Nancy is survived by three very special friends whom she loved dearly: Pat Harper and Terri Evans of Lancaster, SC, and Joyce McClure of Beaumont, Texas.

Nancy’s family would like to offer thanks to physicians: Julie Bowers, Dr. Kashyap Patel, Dr. Matthew Ward, and Nurse Sandy Stroud, as well as Catawba Family Medicine, Carolina Blood and Cancer, and Lancaster Radiation Therapy Center for their wonderful treatment and expressions of Christian love shown to her during her treatment.

A Celebration of Life Service for Nancy will be held at First Baptist Church of Lancaster on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 2:00 PM with visitation to follow in the Family Life Center.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Mission Fund.
